In Mumbai, the CBI filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh on Monday. Singh was serving with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on deputation as an assistant director when he was allegedly caught accepting a bribe in August. He was leading an ED search team that raided a jeweller's home in Mumbai in relation to a suspected money laundering case tied to an investment app controlled by Chinese nationals. Despite not being an investigating officer, Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from the jeweller after the raid, threatening to arrest his son in the case. Upon approaching the CBI, the jeweller filed a corruption case against Singh. The CBI then set up a trap, leading to Singh's arrest in Delhi after he accepted the bribe. Singh's bail application had been previously denied by the sessions court, and he is currently in jail. Upon his arrest, the CBI discovered a phone registered under a different name.
